Sheffield United were one of the clubs relegated from the Premier League last season and, as a result, it’s been expected Sander Berge will leave the club.
That hasn’t happened yet, but there’s a good chance the midfielder will leave the Blades before the window closes.
Napoli are interested in the 23-year-old and he’s at the ‘top of their preferences’, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Serie A side have seen Tiémoué Bakayoko return to Chelsea after his loan spell last term, while Diego Demme is sidelined with an injury. Hence, signing a new midfielder is a priority for Luciano Spalletti’s side.
It’s said the Norway international is their main target and Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has been ‘negotiating with the English club for a few months now’.
Berge’s profile fits the requirements of the Naples club and Giuntoli has received positive reports about the player. The ‘real problem’, however, is related to the economic aspects of the deal.
Sheffield United are asking for €15m, while the Italian side have offered €8-10m, including bonuses. The report explains the negotiations between the two clubs are set to continue, while Giuntoli has also ‘identified a possible alternative’.
