Marseille did not receive a “concrete proposal” from Aston Villa or any other club for midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi in the January transfer window.

That’s according to director of football Pablo Longoria, who has seemingly dismissed the suggestion that the Frenchman was on the verge of reuniting with Unai Emery at Villa Park.

Guendouzi was linked with Aston Villa throughout January as Emery splashed the cash to reshape the squad he inherited from Steven Gerrard.

That saw them linked to Guendouzi from November, with the player one Emery knows well after they worked together during their time at Arsenal.

Several reports during January made it clear they were ready to bid for him, with the last, on the 30th of the month, stating that they had made a ‘very good financial offer’ to the player and thus had two days left to make a bid.

It seems that never happened, though, despite claims Emery even spoke to the midfielder, with Longoria insisting that Marseille never received a concrete proposal from Aston Villa or anyone else.

“We have discussed with Atletico Madrid for Jonathan Clauss without going any further. For Guendouzi, we haven’t received a concrete proposal,” he told a press conference, relayed by La Provence.
