In the past few weeks, Newcastle United have been named as one of the main contenders for the signing of Gabri Veiga from Celta de Vigo.
The Spanish media claimed the Magpies are willing to trigger the player’s release clause, which stands at €40m, to guarantee his signing this summer.
And it turns out that this should be the best plan to take him from Celta indeed, because as Fichajes today brings quotes from the club president, it’s clear that they won’t negotiate with Newcastle or any other interested side.
Speaking to El Larguero, Carlos Mouriño claimed the Spanish side will fight hard to keep the player, despite the calls he’s been getting from foreign clubs.
“We have always said from the beginning that no one has to negotiate with us because we are not going to sell him. We know those who called at first.”
“They already talked to him, he is the one who has the decision… there we already get lost. Yes, I can assure you that teams from Italy, England, France directly to us.”
Gabri Veiga has nine goals and four assists in La Liga this season, and by doing that at 20 years of age, it’s no wonder why he’s drawing the attention from so many clubs.
Newcastle are said to be scouting him since February, but that doesn’t guarantee an advantage for them, especially with Celta de Vigo playing hard in the talks for the sale.
