On Friday, we covered a claim that Newcastle United could very well make a €60m bid for Sergej Milinković-Savić in January.
That would also come with a €12m signing on fee for the player and a five-year contract worth €10m/year in wages, making him a very well paid footballer.
Still, that hasn’t happened yet, but the prospect of it potentially doing so appears to have set a few alarm bells ringing at Lazio, according to Il Messaggero relayed by Lazio Story.
The newspaper claims that ‘market prospects could change suddenly’ if a club like Newcastle ‘really were to knock’ with an offer of €60m.
Publicly, the stance is that Claudio Lotito, the club’s president, would say no, but ‘in reality would give it more than one serious thought’.
Lazio’s manager, Maurizio Sarri, ‘would not oppose the sale’, since he knows he would then be able to get Ivan Ilic in immediately and potentially have the money to reunite with Piotr Zielinski in the summer.
This is something Newcastle could use in their favour, but, for now, no movement has been made from the St James’ Park end.
