Sevilla star Jules Koundé’s move to Chelsea should be made official on Thursday if nothing goes wrong.
That’s according to ABC Sevilla, who state the deal will leave the La Liga side with close to €65m and will be their club-record sale.
Barcelona are keen to sign the defender, but as of today, it seems practically impossible for them to get hold of him.
The Catalan club must twist their finances further to carry out the 23-year-old’s signing and that hasn’t happened so far. In addition to this, they cannot offer him what Chelsea can propose to the player, especially at a time when Barca are trying to lower their wage bill.
Thomas Tuchel’s side have moved this week to secure the France international’s services and have made a few offers to the La Liga side. The first one was about €60m and was rejected by Sevilla.
Chelsea’s second offer of €65m was ‘already more convincing’ for the Andalusian club. It’s claimed this is the ‘one that has left the agreement in the absence of a signature and few fringes to tie’.
Sevilla tried to use Barca’s interest to create a bidding war, especially after Joan Laporta was quizzed about his side’s interest in the centre-back.
The Camp Nou side are set to activate the second economic lever today. This, coupled with Xavi Hernández’s constant contact with Koundé’s camp allowed them to maintain a chance to sign him.
Instead, Barcelona have been left behind with Chelsea’s strong push forward. This has attracted the Frenchman, who likes the idea of moving to London and playing in the Premier League.
These factors bring the central defender closer to Stamford Bridge and ABC Sevilla state ‘Sevilla and Chelsea leave the sale of Koundé pending signature’.
