Chelsea’s failure to agree a deal to sign Jules Kounde in the summer is still being talked about across the European sport media.
It’s assumed the Blues will return to make another attempt for the Frenchman in the future, and the player has been told to get his head straight and make sure he has another good season in La Liga.
Saturday’s edition of L’Equipe reports the failed Kounde to Chelsea deal then directly saw Jerome Boateng become available for Lyon.
L’Equipe insist that had Chelsea managed to agree a move for their target, then Boateng, who was a free agent after leaving Bayern Munich, would have been his replacement.
With that not happening, it gave Lyon a chance to agree a deal themselves.
At this point it’s worth mentioning that whilst Jerome Boateng had been mentioned as a possibility for Sevilla, the media closest to the Spanish club didn’t present him as the concrete option.
Aware of interest from Chelsea and elsewhere in Kounde, Sevilla sporting director Monchi had been looking for options on the market for some months.Signing a young defender, who could grow in level and value, just the same way Kounde has, was considered much likelier than taking on a veteran on high wages.
