It’s now time for the Portuguese media to also speak of Chelsea possibly getting a partner club in the country.
Following a statement from Todd Boehly himself, Lisbon newspaper Record today features a story backing up that he already started the works looking for a side to purchase.
The businessman is said to be ‘interested in acquiring’ a Portuguese club and spoke to someone close to Jorge Mendes for the super agent to work as an ‘intermediary’, but the process is said to be ‘in analysis’ for now.
Record claims it’s not yet known whether Boehly will look for a club of bigger aspirations or a more ‘modest’ side. What is expected is that it will work as a ‘shelter’ for youngster who are not ready to feature for Chelsea yet.
The idea is said to ‘establish a multi-club’ model, just like the City Group have with several sides around the world.
Portuguese clubs make many millions selling talents to Premier League clubs every year, so it definitely looks like a smart play that Chelsea could possibly get to those players first.
That, however, should depend on which kind of side Boehly and Mendes will choose to make the investment.
