According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Chelsea are showing interest in KRC Genk youngster Mike Penders.

The 18-year-old has yet to make his competitive debut for the Jupiler club, but is still on the Premier League side’s radar.

Tavolieri claims Chelsea are working on a deal to sign the young goalkeeper and that they see him having the potential to be the next Thibaut Courtois. It’s reported the London side are in concrete talks to sign Penders this summer.

Genk are trying to get a deal which would see Penders loaned back to them if he signs for Chelsea. It’s very unlikely the keeper would be part of the Chelsea first team squad so sending him back to the Belgian club could help with his development.

Then hopefully they could welcome back a new Courtois!

Penders made 25 league appearances for Genk’s second team last season and was part of the first team’s matchday squad on a few occasions.

The Belgium youth international turns 19-years-of-age in a couple of days and is contracted to Genk until June 2028.
