Chelsea have been in contact with Dayot Upamecano’s agents but face competition from Liverpool and Bayern Munich for his signature.

That’s according to SportBILD journalist Christian Falk, who says both clubs are keen on the RB Leipzig defender.

Upamecano is widely expected to be the target of several approaches come the summer, having continued his impressive rise with Leipzig this season.

He was the subject of interest from the Premier League last year but instead signed a new and improved deal with Leipzig in July.

That deal, though, includes a release clause worth £38m for this summer and that has sparked the interest of several big clubs in Europe.

One of those is Chelsea, according to Falk, who says the Premier League side have been in contact with the player’s agent over a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

Centre back was one of the few positions the club did not spend big on improving in the summer, instead preferring to sign Thiago Silva on a free transfer.

The Brazilian has been a big success, but Chelsea’s defensive problems have continued, and it’s been mooted they could look to sign a new centre back either this month or in the summer.

Upamecano is one of the names touted as an option and it seems the Blues agree, so have thrown their hat into the ring by contacting the player about a move.

The competition for his signature looks to be fierce though, with Liverpool and Bayern Munich also contacting his agent according to Falk.
