Last week, we covered reports from Portugal which claimed that the Chelsea defender David Luiz would be keen on returning to Benfica.

Even though the operation was obviously pretty hard for the Lisbon side, Correio da Manhã claimed the player spoke to the club’s board and expressed his will to play for them again.

Now when interviewed by a Brazilian Youtube channel, David Luiz has once again claimed he wants to go back to the Estádio da Luz, and that’s making a pretty big noise at the Eagles’ headquarters.

The signing continues to be very unlikely, and that’s what newspaper Record explains when covering the news.

They claim the transfer is ‘nearly impossible’ now, especially because David Luiz currently makes €5m after tax per year at Chelsea. He would have to accept a huge pay cut in case of a move.

Another difficulty for Benfica is that the defender still has a year of contract with the Blues, and the London side have no intention of letting him leave for free this summer.

With other clubs interested in taking David Luiz, Benfica feel like the underdogs in this race, even though his wish to return to Lisbon is pretty clear.
