Record’s front page story on Tuesday claiming that Chelsea are offering €80m for Sporting striker Vikctor Gyokeres made a lot of noise in the Portuguese media, with other local outlets now having their own stories on the player’s future.
One of them is newspaper Correio da Manhã, who backs up the information about the Blues’ attempt for the 25-year-old.
The outlet claims Chelsea are currently ‘on top of the list’ of clubs who want Gyokeres, and indeed put that much money on the table.
Still, they also make it clear that Sporting are resisting to that attempt, and actually have a plan to bring the player’s price up.
The Lions first consider Gyokeres to be ‘untouchable’ and will only let him go now if his €100m release clause is triggered. Furthermore, they plan to make a contract offer to raise that amount to €120m.
With that new deal, the striker would also have the chance to earn more, bringing his annual salary from €1.25m net to €2m, with bonuses including.
So if Chelsea can’t manage to sign him now, it seems they’ll need an extra €40m to get him in the summer, as long as he agrees to this new extension with the Lions.
