When Chelsea spent €121m to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica in January, they managed to tie him up with a pretty long contract, having him sign a deal until 2031.
Well, now it seems the Blues weren’t satisfied with that, and already moved to get his commitment extended.
Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo today comes up with an exclusive story claiming that Chelsea now have Fernandez under contract until the summer of 2032.
The Blues reportedly triggered an option they had, and probably took this action a lot sooner than expected.
For now, there’s no information if that includes a pay rise for the player, or any other changes in his contract.
Enzo Fernandez was much wanted by Chelsea, but it’s still strange to see the Blues making that move at this stage.
Chelsea will, of course, have their reasons for triggering the extension so soon after the midfielder arrived from Benfica, and those reasons may become clear in the future.
