Benfica are reportedly still afraid they could lose Victor Lindelof to Chelsea.
Record has an article today saying the defender is a doubt ‘until the last hour’ as the interest from the Blues and Inter Milan could end up taking him away from the Portuguese side.
The newspaper says Chelsea’s will to sign the player isn’t something new, as the Blues have already made a €30m bid for him, which matches his release clause.
However, they insist on claiming that Benfica did some dirty tricks to increase the transfer amount, which we explained in an article last month. They would do it by making Chelsea pay for the taxes.
We’re absolutely certain that Chelsea could get around that, but it could be annoyance to do so with a day of the transfer window left.
Record says Chelsea keep looking for other ways to sign the player for a lower price, but haven’t figured out how to do it so far. That’s pretty hard to believe.
It’s claimed that Antonio Conte is still looking for a central defender and won’t stop until the window closes. In case Lindelof stays, Benfica want to renew his contract and increase his release clause.
