Despite being approached by Barcelona, N’Golo Kanté is going to stay at Chelsea for the next few years.
The Frenchman, who missed the World Cup and most of the season because of injuries, is currently contracted to the Stamford Bridge side until 2023, but that is about to change.
Foot Mercato in France are the ones reporting it, claiming the player will sign a new deal until 2026, with a ‘likely option to extend that until 2027’.
That is a ‘true show of confidence’ from Chelsea, especially when you take into account his age and his recent injury problems.
Down the midfielder’s end, Kanté is ‘particularly happy’ by how things have turned out, as he was prioritising a stay with his current club.
He feels good in London, and while the ‘last few details’ still need to be sorted out, but the prospect of him partnering up with Enzo Fernández at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield is something fans of the club can now look forward to for a few more years.
Not only that, but this new deal means he also won’t be ‘affected by the big clearcut’ expected to take place at Stamford Bridge in the summer to downsize the squad, recently bolstered by an array of acquisitions.
