With Chelsea seemingly purchasing half of Europe since Todd Boehly took over, it isn’t surprising to see a few of the players already at Stamford Bridge asking questions about their future.
One of those is N’Golo Kanté, who has been injured for the majority of the season, missing the World Cup in the process, and whose contract with the Blues expires in the summer.
There had been talk of him potentially renewing with Chelsea, while Barcelona were always attentive to his situation, knowing full well they could get a great player for relatively nothing should they manage to convince him to come.
Well, the spending spree on show at Stamford Bridge these days, his play time could be limited going forward, and that’s why an exit in the summer makes the most sense.
Barcelona, per Sport, have been ‘very attentive to his situation for months’, as they like him, but they are waiting for his ‘physical recovery and no decision has been made’.
They are said to have been speaking with Kanté to ‘find out his intentions and to transmit an interest without reaching agreements of any kind’.
With everything going on at Chelsea, this ‘greatly complicates his renewal’ at Stamford Bridge, meaning he could be given ‘the green light’ to leave in the summer on a free.
That’s what Barcelona are hoping for, at least.
