Chelsea midfielder Willian is confirmed to be replacing Neymar for Brazil as they’re facing Venezuela for the South American World Cup Qualifiers tonight.
Willian lost his place to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho in the last game, but will have another chance as Neymar ended up suspended after picking up two yellow cards.
Speaking to the local media, Brazil manager Tite tried to minimise Neymar’s absence and says he’s happy to have the Chelsea star as a replacement.
“The fact that Neymar is suspended isn’t concerning. But when we talk about Neymar, Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, which team wouldn’t miss them? Everyone.” (via ESPN Brasil)
“But who wouldn’t want Willian or other options as we have? It’s the sense of team. If Brazil stand in dependence on Neymar, it’s because there’s something wrong.”
With Willian in the team, Philippe Coutinho is set to be moved to the left wing and the Chelsea player will play in his original position. Former Tottenham midfielder Paulinho is also set to be back in the team, despite now playing for Guangzhou Evergrande in China.
