Chelsea have signed so many youngsters over the last few years that some fans may struggle to keep up, but one to keep a firm eye on is Geovany Quenda at Sporting Club de Portugal.
He’s enjoying a flying start to the new season and a superb performance in Europe this week has got everyone looking at him, including both O Jogo and Record.
The former explains that Quenda wants to ‘make his mark’ this season and has been doing just that, with as many goal contributions this season already as he managed in the 2024/25 campaign.
He was one of the standout performers in Sporting’s 4-1 win over Kairat Almaty this week, putting in a performance which ‘reflects the steps’ he wants to take.
A stunning slalom goal from him made it 4-0 and ensure he became the youngest Portuguese player to score in the Champions League at 18 years, four months and 20 days.
He’s made a ‘personal commitment’ to demand more of himself this season and assert himself at a higher level ahead of moving to Chelsea in 2026. He knows his numbers needs to increase and he’s working hard to make that happen.
He’s already close to matching his assist tally from last season inside seven games and has now opened his goalscoring account as well. His performances haven’t gone unnoticed either.
Record explain that his memorable goal this week earned praise from Thierry Henry on CBS, who insisted he’s a big fan of the player already.
“I’m a big fan of his,” he is quoted as saying.
“Quenda is special. I like the way he does what he does. He’s fearless – and that’s to be expected from a young man.”
It’s all very positive news for Chelsea, who could be seeing the €50.78m paid to sign Quenda this summer as a bargain before too long.
