Chelsea are expected to have another big transfer window as Todd Boehly tries to correct his own wrongs and shape a squad which can battle for trophies next season.

With Mauricio Pochettino expected to be in charge at Stamford Bridge for the coming campaign, the manager will surely also have some say on what steps are taken.

Monday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport reports the Blues had an official ‘on a mission’ at Napoli’s match against Monza. That mission was watching transfer target Victor Osimhen, who is wanted by many clubs around Europe.

In all honesty, if Chelsea haven’t seen enough from Osimhen yet then they probably never will do. Signing him would be more a question of whether a deal is possible than whether a scout agrees he’s got the right stuff.

The Premier League club would face several hurdles in their way if they move forward with their Osimhen efforts. Firstly, Napoli want as much as €160m and certainly aren’t desperate to sell.

Secondly, Corriere dello Sport make it very clear that the player wants to compete in the Champions League next season. It’s his absolute priority and Chelsea wouldn’t be able to offer it.

Thirdly, there’s serious competition. Clubs such as Manchester United, Newcastle United and PSG have been linked, and they will probably all have Champions League football next season.

This is a problem the Blues could also face with other targets.
