Over the past few seasons, Chelsea have increased their efforts to sign talented South American youngsters.
Enzo Fernandez, Estevao and Moises Caicedo are examples of that. The club aren’t scared to spend big to get the best from the continent.
There are now concrete signs of the Blues being in the mix to sign another Argentine talent.
Quotidiano Sportivo report on senior Chelsea scout Claudio Damiani being at at Bologna’s Serie A game against Pisa at the weekend. The objective was to monitor Rossoblu striker Santiago Castro, who has a goal and assist this season.
The trip ended in disappointment for Chelsea. This is because the 21-year-old remained on the bench against Pisa, as his side won 4-0. Indeed, the Chelsea official left in frustration as soon as Bologna had used all their substitutions.
The outlet notes that scouts from the London giants have been at Bologna since last year. Arsenal and Atletico Madrid have also watched him from the stands in 2024. It is unclear whether Enzo Maresca’s side scouted Castro previously but the striker has already made a mark.
He scored eight times and assisted five times last season. As a result, the Argentine’s value is between €50m and €70m, with Bologna having rejected Al-Nassr’s approach in the summer.
Premier League clubs are keeping a close eye on Castro, with Chelsea likely to return after their frustration.
