Following a report from RMC Sport in France that Newcastle were taking an interest in Leeds’ Illan Meslier, we now get a different one about Chelsea.
This one comes from Foot Mercato, who, about 30 minutes after Fabrice Hawkins provided his update on the goalkeeper, have their own report on the situation.
The timing of both of these suggests someone has said something to some journalists in France about the Leeds star following his good performances under Jesse Marsch.
While the Elland Road side’s season hasn’t gone quite to plan just yet, the French shot stopper has continued to be a bright light for the Premier League club, which has, of course, attracted interest.
Chelsea are among those keeping an eye on him, with their goalkeeper situation, once seemingly solid, now a bit of a mess, with Edouard Mendy falling out of favour, then coming back in, with Kepa Arrizabalaga taking over when the Senegal international was out.
Foot Mercato state the Blues ‘remain on the lookout’ for the Leeds player, and it’s pointed out that despite the Frenchman having a contract at Elland Road until 2026, that doesn’t mean his long-term future there is safe.
In fact, they add they could ‘struggle to keep him’ if bigger clubs, like Chelsea, come knocking, keeping in mind that he also probably has the France national team in mind going forward, especially with Hugo Lloris edging towards the end of his career.
