As Portuguese newspaper Record today writes about some sales that Sporting may make in the summer window, Chelsea get named as the strongest possibility for the Lions’ star Viktor Gyokeres.
The outlet starts by recalling that back in January, the Blues ‘promised’ to show up with a bid worth €80m plus €5m in bonuses.
Now even though it seems that offer was never really delivered, Chelsea have been ‘reinforcing their stance’ by watching the player featuring for the Swedish national team, as they scouted him in Sweden’s friendly against Portugal.
Gyokeres is protected by a €100m release clause, and that’s something the Blues must be aware of, especially because some other interested sides, such as Arsenal, are said to be keen on paying that much.
Since joining Sporting for just €21m last summer, the striker already has 36 goals and 14 assists in 39 appearances for the club.
It seems obvious that he’ll leave them at the end of the season for a huge amount of money, and we shall see whether Chelsea will deliver their bid this time.
