As widely reported, Chelsea are about to finalise Andrey Santos’ loan move to Vasco da Gama. The player is ready to sign for his new club on a spell until the summer.
The Blues signed him from the very same Brazilian side in January, but since he couldn’t get a work permit, they’re letting him play a little more in his home country so he can get enough points for the visa.
Now it turns out that Andrey Santos could get that permission even earlier than expected. That’s because the Chelsea player could soon be called up by Brazil’s first team.
That’s said by outlet O Globo. As they report that caretaker manager Ramon Menezes is calling up the squad on Friday, ‘there’s the expectation’ the midfielder will be included.
Brazil have been without a coach since the departure of Tite, who left the job after the World Cup. And Ramon Menezes is the one who won the U-20 South American Championship this year, with Andrey Santos captaining Brazil. That’s why their bond could take the player to the first team now.
O Globo share some maths to show the player could then get his work permit, as he would get at least eight points from the call-up, plus eight for playing the first division, which he hadn’t played last year, and another four for being born after 2001. That’s 20 points while he only needs 15.
So it does make sense that Chelsea only loan him to Vasco until July, as he could soon be ready to play for the Blues. Otherwise, he’ll also depend on the U-20 World Cup in May.
