Chelsea are ‘ready to step in’ and make a move for Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar should he be available on a free transfer in the summer.
That’s according to Calciomercato.it, who say the Blues are ‘monitoring’ the defender’s situation ahead of next summer.
Skriniar is set to become a free agent at that point, with his current contract at Inter expiring in June of next year.
Inter are working to get the central defender signed to a new deal and have offered him an extended deal worth €7m a year plus bonuses.
That’s something Skriniar is yet to accept, refusing to give Inter a ‘definitive answer’ as he wants to weigh up his options.
He is happy and settled with his family in Milan but knows he is now at a key point in his career, and this could be the last chance he has to make a big move abroad.
The defender will certainly have options to do so, with a growing ‘pressure’ from sides outside of Italy, who are ‘monitoring’ his situation carefully.
Chelsea are one of them as they have a ‘definitely hot axis’ with Inter thanks to the deals for Romelu Lukaku and the Blues’ interest in Denzel Dumfries. They are ‘ready to step in’ if there is an opportunity to do so in the coming months.
Inter want to avoid that happening and negotiations remain open over signing Skriniar to an extension that will tie him to the club for years to come.
If it becomes clear he will not do so, though, Chelsea are lurking and ready to secure themselves a potential free agent bargain next summer.
