Technically a Chelsea player once again after his loan at Inter Milan ran its course, Romelu Lukaku would ideally not return to Stamford Bridge.
He has a few extra days of holidays since he took part in international games after the season ended, and the perfect scenario for the Belgian would be for his future to be sorted before he needs to head back to England.
That’s also Chelsea’s wish, who don’t have any plans for him, as Corriere dello Sport strongly suggest the Blues are eyeing up a move for Dusan Vlahovic as soon as Lukaku is sold.
Their aim is to get rid of the player permanently if they can, trying to convince Inter to come back with an offer that would guarantee an exit, at which point they would turn their attention to the Serbian.
Actually, that’s downplaying what they write a bit, as they write Chelsea would ‘catapult themselves’ after the Juventus striker, who would cost €80m with very little wiggle room for negotiation.
While there is talk that Newcastle could also get involved, the newspaper write that ‘London will want to play the lead in the comedy’ that is building around Lukaku.
They also add in a neighbouring article that the sale of the Belgian, ‘even for a modest amount’, would have a ‘big impact’ on Chelsea’s wage budget, which could ‘give rise to the assault’ on Vlahovic and the defensive midfielder Mauricio Pochettino wants in his squad.
