Chelsea are one of several clubs to have ‘already taken action’ on a possible deal to sign Kylian Mbappé from Paris Saint Germain this summer.
That’s according to RMC Sport, who say Chelsea have ‘positioned themselves clearly’ and ‘took information’ on the potentially huge transfer.
They state that there is no offer at this moment in time, but the Blues are in the mix as Mbappé and PSG look set to go head-to-head.
The French club decided yesterday that Mbappé would not be a part of their pre-season tour of Asia, setting the groundwork for a move away from the club this summer.
The belief is that they are determined to sell the French superstar if he does not make it clear he will not extend his contract, which expires next summer, by July 31st. Mbappé, though, reportedly has no intention of doing so and wants to leave on a free next year.
It is, therefore, up for debate whether Chelsea would be able to convince him on the move to Stamford Bridge this year.
They have, though, made an attempt to ‘get closer to the player’ in an effort to find out if a transfer is possible and under what conditions.
They face big competition from Saudi Arabia for Mbappé, with Al-Hilal ready to offer, with Al-Hilal ready to offer €400m over two years for the PSG star. In their plans, Mbappé could leave next year to join Real Madrid as planned.
They’re offering €200m to buy out the last year of Mbappe’s contract and PSG are ready to accept that if the player does no indicate he will sign a contract extension before July 31st.
It would be impossible to force his hand, though, and the final decision will rest on what the Frenchman wants to do moving forwards. Whether that is stay where he is, join Chelsea or Al-Hilal or try and arrange something else remains to be seen.
