Signed by Chelsea from Southampton after a lengthy set of negotiations, Roméo Lavia hasn’t had a chance to live up to the expectations surrounding his transfer because of injuries.
The 20-year-old has only appeared once this season, in a 32 minute cameo against Crystal Palace, before disappearing from the face of the earth again with what Transfermarkt claim is an ‘unknown injury’.
Mauricio Pochettino even said he was worried about the Chelsea signing’s fitness situation, and DH in Belgium believe they have cracked the case.
The outlet claim that, according to their information, the midfielder suffered a ‘muscle tear in his thigh’, which is a ‘much more serious problem’ than what many first thought.
DH explain that while the issue to his ankle after the transfer was ‘fully assumed’ by Chelsea, this particular injury was ‘voluntarily hidden’ by the Blues.
This is mostly because of the nature of the injury, and it’s explained clubs like to be discreet when it comes to ‘repetitive muscular injuries’, especially when the return date is unknown.
There is also the case that most of these tend to occur because of ‘insufficient preparation and a sped up return’.
As for Lavia in all this, DH claim that sources have told them the Chelsea player should return during the ‘first week of March’, and he cannot wait to be done with his injury issues in order really get his Stamford Bridge adventure underway.
