With all the rumours that have been out regarding the future of Olivier Giroud, it was quite surprising to see Chelsea announcing his contract extension today.
Several stories from the Italian media had been claiming that Serie A clubs were in talks to sign him as a free agent, since his deal would expire this summer, and the situation now has a big turnaround now that he’s tied to the Blues for one more year.
Now it turns out that the rumours aren’t over. Because in more surprising quotes, the striker’s agents have now claimed that a summer move could still be on the cards.
Speaking to Calciomercato, Giroud’s staff released as statement which goes as: “Chelsea have exercised a unilateral option, but in the event of offers they let him go”.
Calciomercato identifies Giroud’s personal team as Michael Manuello, Luca Antonini and Ciro Morabito.
We should probably see the Italian media making the situation more clear very soon.
For now, the situation looks like Chelsea just want to avoid him going on a free, but will not put any barriers in case he decides to go somewhere else.
