Thomas Tuchel’s sacking at Chelsea was not a surprise as the players ‘had enough’ of him by the end.

That’s according to Wesley Sonck, who says the German was going to end up getting sacked at some point.

Tuchel was removed from his position at Stamford Bridge last week following an indifferent start to the season and defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

It brought a surprise end to 19 months in charge for the German boss, who won the Champions League in his first season and led Chelsea to two cup finals last season.

He’s since spoken of his disappointment at the decision to remove him, insisting he had intended to remain with the Blues for several more years.

Chelsea’s ownership decided otherwise, though, instead preferring to sack him and bring in Graham Potter.

It’s a decision which has likely come sooner than they were expecting, especially given the outlay this summer, but Sonck believes Tuchel’s departure was inevitable.

“Surely that man was working towards his dismissal at some point,” Voetbal Primeur report him saying.

“I always look at it from the players’ point of view. What happened with Lukaku is actually pushing him away. Pulisic also had to fill in once with the same feeling…

“That kind of trainer… You may say you need them and that they are professional, but if you act like that towards players, at some point they have had enough.”
