Inter Milan’s sudden chase for Chelsea captain César Azpilicueta seems to be moving forward very quickly.
Italian outlet Sport Mediaset says the transfer is now about to be done, as ‘only the last bureaucratic details’ are left.
According to the report, Azpilicueta is expected in Milan in the coming days for his medicals and to sign the two-year contract that awaits him.
Inter Milan aren’t expected to pay Chelsea for the transfer. It’s said it was the player himself who asked the Blues to terminate his current contract that expires in 2024. And out of respect for his history at Stamford Bridge, they accepted it.
Sport Mediaset says Azpilicueta was looking for ‘more playing time’ and expects to find that with the Nerazzurri. The Italian side are happy to add such an experienced player to the squad, and he’s wanted to be a ‘personality’ in their dressing room.
The fullback joined Chelsea in an €8.8m move from Marseille in 2012, and now leaves the club with 508 appearances made. His achievements for the Blues include one Champions League, two Premier Leagues, two Europa Leagues and one FA Cup, among other titles.
