At this time of the season, Premier League fans can be excited by two things: summer signings and their team’s debut in the league.
Chelsea have been blocked from making additions to their squad in this transfer window, and now after losing 4-0 to a big rival in the first fixture of the season, it should be a harsh week for the Blues.
After the disappointing result at Old Trafford, Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri has spoken to the Brazilian press about the game. He claims that the team didn’t do so bad, but some defensive mistakes cost them the match.
“For 60, 65 minutes we had a good game. And then, the result, for me, doesn’t say what the match was,” Emerson Palmieri told ESPN Brasil.
“We had three, four chances to score. Two balls on the crossbar. At least one goal we had to score. We knew about their quick counter-attack. Of course, they also have their merit. But there’s also our lack of attention. Could have defended better, could have been more attentive.”
Palmieri had a good offensive game, with three dangerous shots towards David De Gea’s goal, one of them hitting the crossbar.
The fact that he’s started the first game of the season shows he’s being given a real chance by Frank Lampard to fight for a place against Marcos Alonso, who stayed on the bench for the 90 minutes.
