João Félix returned to Chelsea in the summer window when they signed him from Atlético Madrid on a permanent transfer.
The forward is yet to start for the Blues in the Premier League and had to settle for starts in the EFL Cup and the UEFA Conference League.
Chelsea face Panathinaikos later today and ahead of this clash, the 24-year-old spoke to the reporters. The Portugal international stated his “time will come” at the west London club.
Marca relay his quotes and analyse what has happened so far with him in recent years.
Félix had a fallout with manager Diego Simeone, and it first resulted in a loan move to Chelsea in January 2022. In his first spell at Stamford Bridge, he played under Graham Potter and Frank Lampard.
Last season, the La Liga side loaned him out to Barcelona, where he had a good start at the Camp Nou. Marca points out the former Benfica star eventually lost prominence under Xavi Hernández at the Catalan club.
The Chelsea player hasn’t been used regularly by Portugal manager Roberto Martínez in the last two international break. Despite Félix insisting his time will come, Marca mock him for his struggles.
They state: ‘Not at Atlético, not at Barcelona, not in Portugal, not [again] at Chelsea. Not with Simeone, not with Graham Potter, not with Lampard, not with Xavi, not with Fernando Santos, not with Roberto Martínez… not with Maresca. Joao Félix Sequeira does not find his place in the world of football.’
Félix, who played 117 minutes in the Premier League, has time to turn things around at Chelsea. Enzo Maresca continues to trust him, but his numbers so far this season haven’t been impressive.
It looks like the player is trying to motivate himself with the ‘time will come’ comment.
