Barcelona are currently trying to secure the renewals of a number of players, including rising star Gavi.

The 17-year-old has a contract at the Camp Nou which runs until June 2023, and despite his young age he’s been a regular in Xavi Hernandez’s side so far this season.

Chelsea are one of a number of clubs who have been linked, but it’s been thought that a Barcelona renewal is much likelier than an exit this summer. Whilst that may still be the case, the talks are not going perfectly, and Barca are facing the same issue they are with Ronald Araujo.

Thursday’s edition of AS reports Gavi and his camp have been asked to ‘make an effort’ for the renewal, so accept a lower salary than he’d otherwise get. Barcelona’s problem is that they haven’t done this across the board, with youngsters like Pedri and Ansu Fati getting big deals.

Gavi’s camp don’t believe it should be anything different for them.

That’s where a possible move to Chelsea comes in, with AS reporting Thomas Tuchel’s side, along with Bayern Munich, have shown willingness in the recent past to pay ‘close to €50m’ for the young talent.

For Chelsea it could also be some sort of revenge, as Barcelona look to secure Andreas Christensen on a free transfer, and would like to do similar with César Azpilicueta.
