On August 31st, Romelu Lukaku returned to Italy when AS Roma took him on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea.
He has enjoyed a good start to his loan spell, scoring two goals from three games, including a winner in his side’s 2-1 win over FC Sheriff in the Europa League on Thursday.
Roma’s Bryan Cristante has hailed the Chelsea owned player during an interview with Sky Italia, and Calciomercato have relayed his comments.
When asked about the striker, Cristante said: “He’s strong, we know it. When you have attackers like that, they make you win games.”
“We know he makes the difference, the most difficult thing is always scoring goals and when you have centre forwards like that it’s easier. He’s very mentally charged and wants to make a difference.”
Lukaku had a disappointing second spell at Chelsea and it convinced him to return to Inter Milan on loan last season. The 30-year-old wasn’t a key player for Mauricio Pochettino going forward, and didn’t appear to want to be, forcing the Blues to find a new solution.
The Nerazzurri were keen on bringing him back to the club but that prospect collapsed. Chelsea even reportedly tried to sell him to Saudi Arabia but he wasn’t in favour of this move.
Juventus were also credited with an interest in the Belgium international but also didn’t get a deal over the line, which allowed Roma to sign him on loan towards the end of the window.
After the summer drama, Lukaku is determined to prove his worth at Roma.
