Chelsea will be in the picture to sign Milan Škriniar, if he decides to leave Inter Milan.

Inter chief Giuseppe Marotta has stressed the Serie A side will soon hold talks with the defender over a new deal and his will to stay at the San Siro long-term can be decisive. The 27-year-old’s contract expires in 2023.

According to Calciomercato.it, Marotta’s latest comments on the centre-back have attracted rumours. When discussing his suitors, Chelsea are tagged.

In order to keep the player at the club beyond this term, the Nerazzurri are offering him a deal that will include a salary of €6-6.5m per year. Their efforts to retain Škriniar may not be enough, in the face of ‘rich offers’ from the Blues and Paris Saint-Germain.

It’s said both Chelsea and PSG are ‘currently on pole’ to land the Slovakia international next summer, if he were to leave his current employer.

Although Graham Potter’s side and PSG are in the mix, it will be difficult to take Škriniar away from the club in January. However, Inter face a ‘real risk’ of losing him for nothing at the end of this season.

Faced with the possibility of losing Škriniar as a free agent, the Italian club have identified a few targets to replace him. Among them is Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, who was on their agenda in the last window.
