On July 22nd, PL Brasil reported Chelsea are chasing Grêmio youngster Gabriel Mec, who is described as the club’s ‘gem’.
It was also stated the Blues want the 16-year-old to first sign a professional contract with his current club, and then agree a deal with Grêmio for his transfer. There was no mention of the fee Chelsea intend to propose.
This information is provided by UOL, who also share the latest on Chelsea’s pursuit of the attacking midfielder.
Mec has been part of Grêmio U20s this year, and played six matches for them, managing a goal in the process. He’s been one of their revelations in recent years and the Premier League side want to sign him.
It’s claimed Chelsea officials have been in Brazil since the start of this week, to try and sign Mec ‘as soon as possible’.
They have agreed to offer €7m plus €7m as potential bonus payments. Grêmio, on the other hand, want €20m, with at least €10m as a fixed fee. There’s no mention of whether the west London club will make an extra effort to meet their demands.
If Chelsea were to agree a deal with Grêmio, Mec won’t be able to arrive in the UK until he turns 18-years-of-age in April 2026.
UOL add Manchester United have looked at the youngster, while Borussia Dortmund have recently made an approach for him.
