Chelsea are showing interest in Club Brugge’s Joel Ordóñez, according to multiple claims.
Club Brugge signed the 20-year-old from Independiente del Valle for their academy in 2022 and promoted him to the senior team a year later. He made 14 appearances for the Jupiler Pro League side this season.
The centre-back started in Ecuador’s win over Bolivia in the World Cup qualifiers last week and it was his first competitive appearance for the national team.
Expreso in Ecuador state ‘Chelsea want him’. They add the defender is a ‘step away’ from meeting his compatriot, Moisés Caicedo, at the west London club.
Over at Olé, they state the Blues are looking at the Ecuadorian. Earlier this month, scouts from the Premier League side ‘travelled exclusively’ to watch Ordóñez in action against Aston Villa in the Champions League.
The South American played the full 90 minutes as Club Brugge sealed a 1-0 win over Unai Emery’s side. Olé makes it clear this doesn’t mean Enzo Maresca’s side will table an offer for Ordóñez in the winter market.
Ordóñez’s deal lasts until 2028 and Transfermarkt values him at €9m. The report states Club Brugge want €30m to sanction the player’s sale and Chelsea have to pay this fee to secure his services.
