Chelsea’s interest in Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres today gets a big story from Portuguese newspaper Record.
The outlet reports that last night the Blues scouted the player for the third time in three months.
It seems Chelsea are only picking the big games, because, according to the story, they had previously watched him in Sporting’s matches against Porto and Benfica.
Now they saw Gyokeres in action for Sweden in the friendly against Portugal, where he started and scored a goal in their 5-2 defeat.
It’s said Chelsea used the scouting mission to ‘take note’ and ‘dispel doubts’ about a potential investment in him.
As the Blues ‘tighten their grip’ on the signing, it’s said this is a ‘clear sign’ that they’re sorting the final details before presenting a summer offer for the transfer.
Record claims that Chelsea already thought of trying Gyokeres in January, and should now make their attempt. Sporting are not expected to make any discounts on his €100m release clause.
Signed from Coventry City on a €21m deal in the summer, the striker already has 36 goals and 14 assists in 39 appearances for the Lions this season.
