Even though the Portuguese media today doesn’t bring big updates about Chelsea’s pursuit of Manuel Ugarte, that doesn’t mean the operation isn’t moving.
In a short story, newspaper Record comes up to say that the Blues held on Thursday another meeting for the signing of the Sporting midfielder.
As previously reported by the same outlet, Chelsea had only offered him a yearly salary of €2m in the first meeting, while Paris Saint Germain put €5m on the table.
With Ugarte having a preference for the Premier League, it’s now said that ‘what is at stake is a last-ditch effort’ from the Blues to decrease that big difference, and then make the midfielder’s ‘dream possible’.
Since both Chelsea and PSG are willing to trigger his €60m release clause, Sporting are not concerned about who he’ll join, and leave the decision on the player’s hands.
Record insists on saying that Ugarte’s departure from the Lions is ‘well underway’, just to make it clear that it hasn’t collapsed.
The sale will be very important for the Lisbon side’s summer plans, as they want the money before starting investing in their squad.
