Earlier this year, Chelsea reached an agreement with Sporting for Geovany Quenda to arrive at Stamford Bridge next summer.

Chelsea have allowed the 18-year-old to finish this season at Sporting to continue his development.

Monday’s edition of Record takes a look at his situation at Sporting and explains what the Blues are doing behind the scenes.

The winger, who can also operate as a wing-back, played 3,663 minutes from 54 games for the Lions last season, but has been limited to 135 minutes from five games this season, without a single start.

Quenda is currently with the Portugal U21 squad and scored a goal in their 5-0 win over Kazakhstan in the European qualifiers last week.

The incoming Chelsea player is knocking on Rui Borges’ door to start matches, as the Sporting manager has favoured Geny Catamo ahead of him.

Meanwhile, the Club World Cup winners are keeping a close watch on their future asset. The newspaper reports the Blues are watching him closely, so much so that they are ‘monitoring every move made’ by the versatile player.

It’s claimed Enzo Maresca’s side are collecting reports of the player’s every match and training session. They want to be ‘fully aware of his physical condition’ before he arrives at the west London club after this season.

Record say ‘there are no restrictions to use’, likely from Chelsea to Sporting on how they can utilise him this season.

They believe Quenda may be a victim of Borges’ system [4-3-3 unlike the back three employed by Ruben Amorim at Sporting] and the manager favouring Catamo ahead of him.

Chelsea, who have invested €50m on the youngster, will continue to monitor his situation and if he continues to be a substitute at Sporting, it could be a concern for the Blues.
