The Catalan media today reveals an attempt made by Chelsea to sign Mikayil Faye in the summer transfer window.
The 19-year-old used to belong to NK Kustosija, and was bought by Barcelona on a €1.5m deal.
The transfer happened in July, but as Sport today features a story on the move, they highlighted how Chelsea missed out on that signing.
It’s claimed that the Blues had actually been ahead of Barcelona for the signing, especially because they were offering more money to get him.
Chelsea and Genk reportedly both had bigger offers. The Blues’ intention was to loan him out to France, while the Belgian club were ready to have him in the first team.
According to Sport, the Stamford Bridge side even had the ‘documentation’ ready when the player ended up deciding to move to Barcelona instead.
The story explains how lucky the Camp Nou side were as they reached a choose now or lose him crossroads, because in ‘a few hours’, the player could’ve signed for another destination instead.
That was said to be a ‘brilliant and quick move’ by Barcelona, and only time will tell whether Chelsea will regret missing out on that signing.
