Chelsea have emerged as an option for RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku in the summer window.
The forward has been in stellar form for the Bundesliga side, managing 34 goals and 20 assists in all competitions, out of which 11 goals and two assists came from 11 European matches.
Chelsea had been credited with an interest in the France international’s club teammate, Joško Gvardiol.
Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg took to Twitter to state the Blues are also keen on the 24-year-old attacker. According to the journalist, Thomas Tuchel is ‘highly interested’ in the former Paris Saint-Germain man.
The player’s current deal runs down in 2024 and does not include any release clause. The German club, for their part, have no intention to sell their prized asset in the summer and have offered him a new contract.
Update #Nkunku: Not only Gvardiol, Tuchel is also highly interested in Nkunku! But: The player has got an offer from Leipzig to extend. They don’t want to sell him in summer. Right now no release clause. #MUFC is also interested, especially Rangnick. @SkySports @Sky_Marc #CFC 🇫🇷

Apart from Chelsea, Plettenberg states Manchester United are also ‘interested’ in Nkunku.
Claims made by Plettenberg regarding Chelsea interest in the Frenchman are backed up by Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna. He states they’ve had Nkunku on their agenda ‘since October’ 2021.
