Chelsea striker David Fofana is quickly earning himself new fans at loan club Union Berlin, with the belief he is well on the way to emulating his idol Didier Drogba.
That’s according to BILD, who cover the player’s strong start to life in Germany today and how he’s needed just three home games to make a positive impression.
According to the newspaper, the 20-year-old has quickly become ‘one of the new favourites’ at the German club despite only arriving earlier this month.
Saturday’s clash with Bergamo was his third game in pre-season for his new club and his best so far, with him bagging two goals and an assist in a complete display.
The belief is that the youngster is very much ‘on the right track’ for an impressive season and, more importantly, emulating his idol Didier Drogba.
He’s well known in Germany thanks to his efforts in aiding Chelsea to beat Bayern Munich to the Champions League title in 2012 when he scored a last-minute equaliser and then scored the winning penalty in the final that year.
He’s an icon in all of Africa and especially for Fofana, who was determined to join Chelsea because of Drogba’s history there and his determination to emulate him.
That’s not been possible at Stamford Bridge so far, but he’s made a positive start to life in Berlin and BILD state if things continue as they’ve started, he’ll be getting plenty of plaudits this season.
That could make him ‘interesting’ for Chelsea down the line, where he’s keen to live up to the standards set by his idol.
