On Wednesday, we covered the latest in Italy regarding the future of Romelu Lukaku away from Chelsea, and it wasn’t looking good for the Belgian.
The striker hasn’t been anywhere near the same player as he was during his first spell with Inter, where he helped the club lift the Serie A trophy, and it’s starting to get frustrating.
That’s because Inter paid around €20m (wages included) to ensure he was brought back from Chelsea on loan, and there was even talk of an agreement between the two sides regarding a possible extension of said deal next season.
Well, considering he’s barely played and struggled to find the back of the net, that future is now uncertain, as explained by Gazzetta dello Sport.
They are very clear that the Chelsea loanee is ‘no longer irreplaceable’ for Inter, despite the fact the two sides shook hands lat summer, ‘making an appointment’ for this June ‘to try and renew the agreement before thinking about a permanent deal’.
The problem is that with everything, it’s ‘difficult to take his future in Milan for granted’, especially since the Blues, who paid €115m to buy him from Inter in the first place ‘have no intention of giving any more gifts’.
Should he fail to pick up form and become the player he once was, the Serie A side are already looking at replacements for the Chelsea forward, including Marcus Thuram, who will be free in the summer as he runs down his contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach.
There are others, too, and it’s clear that the clock is ticking for Lukaku right now.
