Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has admitted he “would love” to join Real Madrid on a permanent basis next year if given the opportunity.

The goalkeeper has been speaking to El Larguero, relayed by El Bernabeu Digital, regarding his loan move to Real Madrid and his plans moving forwards.

The 28-year-old joined the Spanish giants on loan from Chelsea in the middle of last month when they moved quickly to secure a replacement for Thibaut Courtois, who has been ruled out for much of the season with an ACL injury.

The deal taking him to the Santiago Bernabeu only runs until next summer and does not include a purchase option, meaning he will be headed back to Chelsea in a year’s time regardless.

They’ve already spent money replacing him with Robert Sanchez, though, meaning he does not appear to be a part of their plans moving forwards, at least on the face of it.

And it seems he would much prefer to stay where he is now anyway, admitting he hopes to play well enough to convince Madrid to push for a permanent deal.

“I have just arrived, I have been there for two weeks, we are going to see it and I am delighted to stay,” he said while adding he “would love to stay.”

“We also have to reach an agreement, we have to see many things, there is a lot of time left, but I am always willing to fight, to improve and in the end and ultimately for us to achieve success as a team.”
