Chelsea youngster Renato Veiga has admitted he has no concerns about the growing football calendar despite the growing discontent among the world’s players.
Mais Futebol cover comments from the Chelsea defender today in a press conference for Portugal as he gears up for another international break with Roberto Martinez’s side.
This is the third international break of the season already as the world’s governing bodies shoehorn even more competitions into an already packed schedule.
Players like Veiga, who play for teams competing in numerous competitions, face even more fixtures without longer breaks to accommodate them.
That’s led to a growing number making their discontent public, with some even threatening to go on strike if a compromise is not reached.
The matter has been a hot topic for players and journalists this week, with those put up for press conferences asked about their opinions on the matter.
Most have toed the party line, with Arsenal’s David Raya even calling for the PFA to intervene to help protect players moving forwards.
It seems Veiga has a different take on the matter, though, and personally feels that it is a case of the more the merrier.
“I had already talked about this, I think that for us young people, the more games the better,” he said.
“But I think we always have to take into account the health of the players and the focus is very much on this and also on the quality of the game.
“But for us young people, the more games the better and we want to make the most of it.”
