Bayern Munich could turn their attention to Chelsea defender César Azpilicueta, with the belief a cheap deal is possible.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say Azpilicueta is being eyed as a potential replacement for Benjamin Pavard should he depart as expected.
The newspaper explains that the German champions are planning for next season and a decision has been made on Pavard, who wants to leave before the end of his contract in 2024.
No concrete offers have arrived yet, but the belief is that he will be departing the Allianz Arena and replacements are now being sourced.
Kyle Walker is on that list but negotiations to get him out of Manchester City are likely to be difficult and there is another ‘prominent name’ on the list; Chelsea’s César Azpilicueta.
Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel has a ‘good relationship’ with the defender from his time at Chelsea, where the Spaniard was his captain, and the pair ‘stayed in touch’ following the German’s departure.
The player has a year left on his current contract and so therefore ‘would be cheap’, with Sport BILD saying he’s valued at around €8m.
That’s a price Bayern would seemingly be happy to pay but it remains to be seen if Chelsea will let him go or if Mauricio Pochettino has other plans.
