Chelsea have made Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane a priority this season but face competition for him from Paris Saint Germain.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say the French giants have ‘made contact’ about a potential move.

The website explains that after ten seasons with Real Madrid, the Frenchman is ‘considering’ his future at the club, and PSG could take advantage of that.

They have already been in touch with the defender’s entourage to determine ‘the contours of the case’.

In their mind, the Real Madrid man would be a logical signing as he can work in a two or three-man defence.

They’re yet to fully decide on a move, but if they do decide to do so in the coming weeks, they know they will face a Madrid side trying to make Varane renew until 2022.

There is also attention from elsewhere, with Manchester United and Chelsea also showing interest. Indeed Chelsea are said to have made him a ‘priority’ for manager Thomas Tuchel.

It all depends on Varane, though, who has to make a decision on his future first before his suitors make their real moves.
