For the past few days, reports coming out of France have discussed Chelsea’s interest in signing Lyon’s Malo Gusto in January.

On Wednesday, L’Equipe explained the 19-year-old is keen to join the Blues before the winter market closes next Tuesday.

It was also stated the right-back has agreed a long-term deal with Chelsea and cannot imagine the transfer failing.

Thursday’s edition of the same newspaper states Chelsea returned with an improved bid yesterday after their first proposal of €17m plus €3m bonuses was turned down by Lyon.

L’Equipe don’t specify the figure but state the west London club’s offer was in excess of €20m. The second bid has still not convinced the Ligue 1 side to sanction the fullback’s sale.

Lyon continue to demand €30m for the France U21 international, who has a contract until 2024. They aren’t interested in parting ways with Gusto in January and this puts them in a position of strength when negotiating with Graham Potter’s side.

Gusto, meanwhile, ‘dreams of leaving’ Lyon for Chelsea. At the moment, it seems like his wish would only be fulfilled if the Blues are ready to offer €30m.
