River Plate’s Ian Subiabre is on the transfer radar of a few top European clubs, including Chelsea.

On Friday, we covered claims from Argentina that Chelsea could soon approach the 18-year-old’s entourage to discuss a potential move while River Plate are trying to extend his contract, which currently expires in December 2026.

Chelsea have contacted the winger if a report from Soy del Millo is to be believed.

It’s claimed the youngster is back in the spotlight, as he recently ‘received calls’ from the Club World Cup winners and Barcelona.

The Argentine club were initially confident of securing his renewal and made an offer. This was done to avoid the risk of losing the player ‘sooner than expected’.

However, things haven’t gone as per River Plate’s plan as Subiabre hasn’t renewed and they face the risk of losing him.

Journalist Germán Balcarce reports the Blues target will miss tomorrow’s Copa Libertadores clash against Palmeiras, without making it clear whether this is related to his refusal to sign an extension.

River Noticias report the South American club had reached an understanding in March for for Subiabre’s renewal until December 2027, but he hasn’t signed.

They say he has a €30m clause in his contract and River Plate want to raise it to €100m. Subiabre’s agents aren’t in favour of this and would prefer to raise it to €35m or €40m.

Chelsea have made an approach and could capitalise on his contract situation to sign him for €30m.
