Chelsea are currently leading the race for Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy and could get him for less than his €70m release clause too.

That’s according to Calciomercato.it, who follow up a report from earlier today about Chelsea’s interest and insist they’re very much out in front at this moment in time.

They explain that Guirassy has plenty of admirers again this summer after a superb season for Dortmund in which he’s scored 28 goals and registered nine assists in 40 games so far.

13 and five of those have come in the Champions League, including a hattrick against Barcelona at the Camp Nou this week in Dortmund’s 3-1 victory.

The 29-year-old has proven to be worth the €18m spent to sign him in the summer but CM.it report that Dortmund could be forced into a sale if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.

In fact, they could be pushed to ‘review their valuation downwards’ on the striker, with the current price €70m. That’s the figure his release clause is set at.

Several Italian sides are keen, including Napoli as Antonio Conte wanted him last summer, but the ‘real problem’ for them is Chelsea.

The Premier League ‘are the favourites’ for the striker in the race for Guirassy and Chelsea are ‘in the lead’ on that front. Their goalscoring problems, particularly their lack of a striker, has been well documented.

And with Dortmund potentially forced into a cheaper sale, they may be ready to jump on Guirassy ahead of their Italian competition.
